A fun Key West tradition, the Annual Hemingway Look-Alike Contest at Sloppy Joe’s Bar is one of many events in Key West to celebrate the birthday of Ernest Hemingway – who lived, loved and worked on the island for many years. The three-day competition honors Hemingway’s work as an author and sportsman and names the winning Papa for the year.
Join the infamous Hemingway Look-Alike Society at Sloppy Joe’s Bar for the 33rd Annual Hemingway Look-Alike contest. Cheer for over a hundred Hemingway look-alikes, grey beards and all, competing in rounds and then the finals on Saturday night. The festivities include the contest, photos, arm wrestling and the Running of the Bulls followed by Papa’s birthday cake.
Head over to Sloppy Joe’s early, grab a good seat and watch the Hemingway ringers compete with pours of Papa’s rum. The party spills over into the colorful streets of Key West, where the Street Fair on Duval rocks on with live music, entertainment, drinks, food and those legendary cheeseburgers in paradise.
Located at Duval Street and Greene, Sloppy Joe’s is an iconic Key West bar since 1937, serving beer for days and awesome pub grub. Enjoy the party in Sloppy Joe’s lively main bar or throw back a few pints at Joe’s Tap Room, highlighting craft beers on tap.
